This has been a highly requested video so, here goes!
I remember when I first started out on Etsy, it was overwhelming to see so many sellers and shops out there selling the same thing. That’s why finding the right niche is key to standing out and succeeding on Etsy, and i’m going to share with you everything I’ve learned along the way.
So if you’re just starting out on Etsy or feeling stuck in your current niche, this video is for you.
I’ll be covering how i researched niche ideas, evaluating if they’re profitable, and how i finalized my niche. I’ll also be going over a live demo later on in the video, So don’t miss it, and let’s dive in!
What is a niche?
If you are an Etsy seller, you may have heard the term “niche” thrown around. But what exactly does it mean and why is it important for your shop’s success?
A niche is a specific area of focus within a larger market. In other words, it’s a unique and specialized product or service that caters to a particular group of people with specific needs or interests.
Let’s say you’re an Etsy seller who specializes in digital planners. Instead of creating generic planner templates that can be used for any purpose, you could create digital planners that cater to a specific niche or target market.
For example, you could create a digital planner specifically designed for teachers. This planner could include sections for lesson plans, grading sheets, and student information. It could also have custom pages for specific subjects like math, science, or English.
Why is finding a niche important for Etsy sellers?
Well, for starters, it can help you differentiate yourself from the competition. With millions of active sellers on Etsy, standing out can be a challenge. But by focusing on a specific niche, you can carve out a unique space for your shop and attract customers who are specifically interested in what you have to offer.
if you specializing in a specific area, you can become known as the go-to shop for that particular product or service, which can help build trust and credibility with your customers.
How to find your niche on Etsy
1. Do some research.
Look at what’s popular on Etsy right now and see if there are any categories that interest you. I like looking right on the platform because the search will auto complete and it will give you some trending products right now.
2. Consider your own interests and skills.
Do you have a particular hobby or talent that could translate into a product? Also, what kind of bandwidth do you have for your shop if this is a side hustle? I chose Canva templates because I love being creative and graphic design. It’s also something I can produce in a short amount of time because I have a full time job and kids to look after! So time is very limited.
3. Look at your potential competition.
Take a look at what other sellers in your category are doing, and see if you can find a gap in the market that you could fill.
Another way to find niches out side of the Etsy platform is to use keyword research tools to find potential niches that you may not have thought of yet. I used a lot of free tools like Etsy Hunt and eRank. I’ll go over more of how to use eRank later in the video.
Narrowing down your niche
Once you’ve done some research and have a list of potential niches, it’s time to narrow it down.
Consider the demand and profitability of each potential niche. You want to make sure that there is enough interest in your niche to make it worth your time and effort.
An easy way to figure this out is to use tools like eRank and Sale Samurai. I will go through an example later on in the video.
Additionally, think about your target audience and how you can appeal to them. You should also make sure that your chosen niche is sustainable in the long-term.
